LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Xerox Corp. has announced that it is hiring more than 50 workers for its call center in Lewiston.

A company spokeswoman says the new workers are being hired to handle unforeseen growth.

The former Affiliated Computer Services had laid off 70 people just last month after Xerox anticipated losing two of the four clients whose calls were handled in Maine.

The spokeswoman tells the Sun Journal that one of those clients decided to stay while a remaining client is experiencing growth.

The company says it will first ask those people who were recently laid off if they want to be rehired.

The call center answers in-bound calls and employs 250 people.

Xerox purchased ACS in 2009.
