To mitigate the expected absence of Kirk Hinrich, who suffered a sprained right elbow late in Friday’s loss to Phoenix, the Wizards have signed guard Mustafa Shakur from the NBA Development League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 10-day contract.
Shakur (6-foot-4, 195 pounds) averaged 16.7 points, 5.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds for the Vipers this season. Originally undrafted out of Arizona in 2007, Shakur has spent time with three different NBA teams – Sacramento, Oklahoma City and New Orleans – but has never appeared in a game.
Last season in the D-League, he averaged 19.3 points, 6.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds for the Tulsa 66ers. He has also played professionally in Poland, Spain and Greece.
