Stan Williams won his second senior championship in as many months, capturing the 64th Middle Atlantic Senior Amateur Wednesday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Williams (71-69-71 – 211), a member at River Creek, beat surging Tim Vigotsky (70-75-69 – 214) by three strokes to win the title for the first time.
The win, coupled with his victory in the Northern Virginia Senior Amateur, gives Williams two of the area’s most coveted senior titles.
Vigotsky, the golf coach at Virginia AAA state champion Westfield who was playing at his home course, made birdies at No. 16 and No. 17 to cut the deficit to a stroke. But Williams closed with a birdie and Vigotsky a bogey.
The winner in the super senior category was legendary Vinny Giles (72-72-72 – 216), the 67-year-old reigning U.S. Senior Amateur champion and two-time Middle Atlantic Senior Amateur champ.
Defending Middle Atlantic Senior Amateur champion Pat Tallent (73-75-74 – 222) of Congressional, 2009 runner-up John Cuomo (73-73-76 – 222) of Independence, and first-round leader Ben Clements (68-78-76 – 222) of Hobbit’s Glen tied for 10th place.
