Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine has created some confusion about his position on the Hyde amendment, a longstanding budget measure that bans federal funding of abortion except in extreme cases.

Hillary Clinton wants to repeal the Hyde amendment. Kaine says that he continues to oppose its repeal, but spokesmen for Hillary Clinton say that, with regard to Hyde, Kaine is "committed to carrying out Secretary Clinton's agenda."

After a campaign event in North Carolina on Wednesday, Kaine was asked by a tracker with the group America Rising how he would cast a tie-breaking vote on Hyde as vice president in the Senate. Kaine initially acknowledged the questioner and encouraged him to call him Tim, but immediately continued down the ropeline. The unanswered question remains a good one. Hopefully Kaine will answer it soon.
