Colorado Republican Mike Coffman has released a campaign advertisement that puts some distance between him and presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“People ask me, 'What do you think about Trump?' Honestly, I don't care for him much," the fourth-term representative and Marine veteran says in the ad. "And I certainly don't trust Hillary."

His criticism of both candidates paves the way for him to say, "For me, country comes first."

"If Donald Trump is the president, I'll stand up to him, plain and simple," Coffman continues. "And if Hillary wins, I'll hold her accountable every step of the way."

Coffman, 61, was a combat officer in the Gulf War and served in the War in Iraq. He was first elected to Congress in 2008 after stints as Colorado treasurer and secretary of state.

His House seat has been rated a toss-up by several election analysts. The territory he represents, Colorado's 6th Congressional District, is a swing district.
