An image posted on Facebook, Reddit, 4Chan, and Twitter (a.k.a., the usual suspects) this weekend claimed to be of the “PIPE BOMBER SUSPECT pictured last year” during “a banquet and [had] a photo OP with a Democrat Donor/Supporter.”
What’s the image of, really? Two guys who attended college together for a short time. The suspect, Cesar Sayoc, is pictured here with high school soccer coach Izzy Hernandez. Both attended Brevard College in the early 1980s.
In 2009 Hernandez was inducted into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame. As his bio for the ceremony notes, “Izzy spent his first two college years (1980-82) at Brevard College, in Brevard, NC.” During this same time Sayoc was on the soccer team at Brevard (from 1980-81). So, this seems to be nothing more than two people who knew each other for a time in college taking a picture together years later. No evidence that Hernandez is some secret big-donor Democrat.
It doesn’t disprove Sayoc’s financial distress, either. In 2012 he filed for bankruptcy, as USA Today reports:
His total employment income the year before was just over $7,500. And he had collected about $16,000 in unemployment between 2009 and 2010, according to the bankruptcy records.
Sayoc also lost his Fort Lauderdale home in a foreclosure in September 2009, according to court records. He filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2012. The court records in that case state he had just $4,175 in assets, including a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with 285,000 miles, and $21,109 in liabilities.
Law enforcement officials believe he was living out of his van at the time of his arrest.
No false flags, no strange photo ops. Bunk, through and through.
