Just came from an off-the-record breakfast with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who's as impressive in private as he is in public. He has to attend to big budget and policy matters in Jersey for the next five months, and he is focused on that. But after New Jersey's next fiscal year begins on July 1, concerned Republicans who want to win the presidency in 2012 might want to pay a visit to Trenton--after they stop off at 1233 Longworth on Capitol Hill to get another reluctant candidate to consider jumping in the water. Once in Trenton, they can remind the governor that exactly a century ago another New Jersey governor with less than one term in office was convinced to run for president, that he won, and that we may well need a new New Jersey governor as president to undo progressivism's damage.
