The MetroAccess driver accused of sexually assaulting his 36-year-old mentally disabled passenger last week might have fled the country, Metro officials said Thursday.

Tanveer Fayyaz, 31, is wanted on outstanding charges of second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree sex offense. Police say the Regency Cab driver attacked the woman in Montgomery County while tasked with driving her from an adult day care center to her home on July 8.

Authorities believe Fayyaz may have fled the country hours after the offense was reported, taking a flight to Qatar on Tuesday. Metro Transit Police say they are working with county, federal and international officials to secure an international arrest warrant against him.
