BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — A proposed indoor football practice center won't be built on part of Virginia Tech's woodland area called Stadium Woods.

Virginia Tech officials said Tuesday that President Charles Steger has accepted a recommendation to find a new location for the athletic facility outside of the nearly 14-acre woods.

But The Roanoke Times reports (http://bit.ly/O21n95) that officials for the Blacksburg school said the woods will not be protected as a reserve or through an easement.

The Faculty Senate, Student Government Association and the student-led Environmental Coalition in June asked the university's Board of Visitors to preserve the woods and build the facility elsewhere.

University spokesman Larry Hincker told the newspaper that Steger will have final say in where the football facility will be located. There is no timetable for a final decision.
