VIENNA, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say a trooper is recuperating from injuries suffered when a driver struck his patrol car.

Authorities say Trooper K.S. Fleenor had pulled up behind a tow truck on Interstate 495 early Saturday. The trooper was in the cruiser with its emergency lights on when he was rear-ended by another vehicle.

Spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the collision pushed the cruiser into the disabled vehicle that was about to be towed from the scene. The trooper and the tow truck driver were each treated and released from Fairfax Inova Hospital.

State police identified the driver of the vehicle that struck the cruiser as 30-year-old Christina M. Hirt of Alexandria. State police say she refused treatment at the scene and has been charged with driving under the influence.
