WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) — Two bald eagles that have been nursed back to health by the Wildlife Center of Virginia are returning to the wild.

The Waynesboro center says the eagle releases are planned for Wednesday and Thursday. The first will occur at Mason Neck in Fairfax County. This bird was found on the ground in Washington near Bolling Air Force Base in May. The thin and dehydrated eagle was treated by rehabilitation staff and is now deemed ready to fend for itself.

The Thursday release will occur at Berkeley Plantation on the James River below Richmond. This bird was rescued by a state fish and wildlife biologist in Surry County in May. The bird was treated for infection and has showed a steady recovery.
