EMPORIA, Va. (AP) — A Virginia National Guard transportation company is being activated for duty in Afghanistan.

The Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support will conduct transportation support operations.

Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long Jr. says about 160 soldiers will spend 45 to 60 days at Fort Hood, Texas, conducting mobilization training before they are deployed Afghanistan.

The mobilization is scheduled to last a year.
