Two Northern Virginia chiropractors have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud, admitting that they billed insurance companies for procedures they didn't perform.

Dr. Tammy L. Cashion, 48, and her husband, 47-year-old Dr. Paul J. Curcio, pleaded guilty this week in federal court in Alexandria.

They admitted to conspiring with an associate chiropractor at their Centreville practice to bill for physical therapy they either didn't do or didn't perform for enough time to be billable under American Medical Association regulations

Their plea agreements say the doctors will repay health insurance companies Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna and United Health Care a total of $110,000.

Cashion is scheduled to be sentenced April 22 and could face five years in prison. Curcio pleaded to a misdemeanor theft charge and will be sentenced April 26. He could face a year behind bars.
