A gunman opened fire in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie theater Thursday night and killed two people, then died after turning the gun on himself.

Press reports said the shooting took place at an early evening screening of the movie Trainwreck.

Early reports from the Associated Press said the killer and one victim died. But reports early Friday morning said three were dead, including the shooter, and another nine were injured.

One local report said witnesses described the shooter as a white, middle-aged man.

The event prompted Louisiana Governor and presidential candidate Bobby Jindal to leave the campaign trail and return to Lafayette.
