When a sudden, heavy blast of snow hit just as Washington area drivers began to journey home it was "game over," former District Department of Transportation Director Gabe Klein said on TBD TV on Thursday morning.
The snow piled up fast, causing it to take six hours or more for some commuters to make the trip home.
Klein said the plows did a "phenomenal job" given the conditions they were handed. Cars and buses quickly became stranded clogging main arteries and making it impossible for plows to move through the streets.
But once roads were clear of cars, the plows seemed to have quickly pushed the snow aside. As of Thursday morning most roads were clear.
