JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Tougaloo College has agreed to acquire Vicksburg-based WUFX-TV to help "further its academic mission" and give its students greater insight into how television stations work.
Dr. Beverly W. Hogan, the college's president, announced the acquisition Thursday. She says the station's owners, American Spirit Media, are gifting the station to the college but the transaction still requires approval by the FCC. If approved, Hogan says they should have the station's keys by the end of the year.
Hogan says the entire college community is excited about the opportunities owning the station will give students, particularly those in the Mass Communications Department. She says students will gain real world experience through seeing how a television station works
The station, which serves the Jackson market, is the MyNetworkTV affiliate for that area.
