Throw away those sleeping pills. Montgomery County has a surefire way to put you in a coma-like state — its 1,152-page zoning ordinance.
The massive outline of building regulations contains more than 120 zones detailing where and what can be constructed in a county that has largely run out of developable land.
"Ask for a copy of the zoning ordinance and you try to figure it out," said Councilwoman Nancy Floreen, D-at large. "I challenge you to make sense of it."
Planning officials are rewriting the code in an attempt to maximize the little property available for new construction. However, critics say it will overwhelm residential areas by allowing more development in single-family neighborhoods.
You'll need a pillow, and maybe a blanket, but you can peruse all zoning documents here.
