Trial date set for Virginia Tech lawsuits A trial date has been set for two $10 million lawsuits filed against Virginia Tech officials by families of two students slain in the 2007 massacre at the school. The nine-day trial will begin Sept. 26. Most of the victims' families accepted their share of an $11 million state settlement.
The families of Erin Peterson, of Chantilly, and Julia Pryde, of New Jersey, filed suits claiming university officials acted inappropriately on April 16, 2007, when 32 people were slain by student Seung-Hui Cho.
One dead after house fire in Temple Hills
A man was killed early Saturday in a fire at a Temple Hills home.
The blaze broke out in a 2-story single-family home on the 2700 block of Fairlawn Street at about 5:30 a.m., according to acting Maj. Paul Cruz of Prince George's County fire and emergency services.
The man was taken to United Community Medical Center in critical condition, and died at the hospital. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Woman injured after jump at National Harbor
A woman is in critical condition after apparently jumping from a Gaylord National Harbor building early Saturday.
The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Waterfront Street in Fort Washington, according to Prince George's County fire and emergency services.
Man killed in I-95 crash
A man was killed in a one-car crash on Interstate 95 in Beltsville Saturday. Prince George's County fire and emergency services said a vehicle left the roadway, hit a light pole and split in half. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
His name has not been released.
The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on I-95 near Powder Mill Road.
