Woman struck with arrow recovering

A woman who was struck in the head by an arrow during archery practice was recovering Wednesday, Montgomery County police said.

At 8:36 p.m. Tuesday, police and fire/rescue personnel were called to the incident on the 10400 block of Moxley Road in Damascus.

People had been shooting into a bale of hay outside of a residence. One arrow went through a bale and ricocheted off a hard object, striking the woman, Montgomery County police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Innocenti said.

The woman was flown to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Teen charged in playground fire

A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a playground fire in Fairfax County, officials said.

The suspect was charged with setting a fire capable of spreading and carelessly damaging property by fire, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

The fire occurred on June 14 at the Lake Braddock Community Association Playground, located at 5122 Dahlgreen Place. The fire primarily damaged a slide, officials said, and playground equipment damage was estimated at $2,000.

No one was injured in the fire.

Man falls from roof, dies

A man died after falling off a roof at a construction site in Anne Arundel County, officials said.

Tuesday morning, police and fire personnel responded to 1475 Dorsey Road in Hanover. An investigation found 32-year-old Ismael Celestino Lopez-Rojas had climbed onto the roof of a three-story, under-construction condominium building to secure a safety anchor when, he is believed, to have lost his footing.

Lopez-Rojas, of Frederick, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said, and there is no evidence of foul play.
