Rifle, badges stolen from cop car

Police are investigating the theft of a rifle, badges and police equipment that were left in an unmarked Montgomery County police vehicle.

Between Monday night and Tuesday morning, someone broke into the police vehicle parked in front of the officer's residence on the 2500 block of Sapling Ridge Drive in Brookeville. The thief made off with a Colt M-4 rifle, two loaded M-4 magazines, two sets of handcuffs, two Montgomery County police badges, a police baton and two loaded .40 caliber Glock magazines.

Montgomery County police policy prohibits officers from storing weapons and serialized equipment in their vehicle. Police are still investigating to determine if the officer will be disciplined, a police spokeswoman said.
