Son shoots father in leg An 18-year-old Manassas man was arrested after he shot his 41-year-old father in the leg, authorities said.
Jeremy Harris was charged with aggravated malicious wounding after a fight with his father escalated to gunfire around 2 a.m. Monday in their home on the 9800 block of Blue Gray Circle, police said. Harris wasn't home when police arrived, but they apprehended him a short time later. His father was taken to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Mo-ped driver killed in Maryland collision
A 24-year-old man was killed when his mo-ped collided with a pickup truck in Columbia, police said.
Mohammed Hammad Chaudhry was traveling east on Tamar Drive when his mo-ped struck the left-turning pickup truck driven by 45-year-old Marganta Gonzalez Cruz around 1 p.m. Sunday, police said. Cruz was not injured, and police are investigating.
Girl, 12, raped by 40-year-old man, police say
A 40-year-old Woodbridge man was arrested on rape and other charges after authorities learned he had raped a 12-year-old girl, police said.
Yasmandu Contreras was taken into custody Friday evening after police responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 1200 block of Bayside Avenue in Woodbridge, police said. Contreras was an acquaintance of the girl. The 12-year-old was treated and released from an area hospital.
Man dies after being struck by Metro train A 28-year-old District man was struck and killed by a train at the Minnesota Avenue Metrorail station, authorities said.
The Orange Line train was headed in the direction of New Carrollton when it hit the man around 2:55 a.m. Sunday, Metro officials said. The man's name was not released, and officials said transit police are investigating the incident.
Calls were not returned Monday.
