Pot growing operation found at Va. day care
Police found a marijuana growing operation at a home day care facility in Suffolk.
Officers were responding to a domestic dispute on Saturday when they uncovered two canisters of marijuana, the Newport News Daily Press reported. A man at the home acknowledged that he had grown it and officers found a hydroponic growing operation.
Authorities say charges are expected against at least one person.
3 teens arrested in Woodbridge rape
Three male teenagers have been arrested in connection with the June 30 rape of a 15-year-old girl in Woodbridge.
The girl was walking when she was approached by the teens, whom she knew, Prince William County police said.
Police say the three boys, two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old, forced her into a house and raped her. They were being held Tuesday without bond.
Administrative assistant pleads guilty to wire fraud
A administrative assistant from Frederick County pleaded guilty Tuesday to embezzling more than $660,000 from her employer over seven years.
Kymberli Rand, 41, defrauded the Rockville-based Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation from 2003 through February 2010, according to the plea agreement, filed in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.
She used the money to pay her personal credit card bill and accrued thousands of dollars in personal expenses on her CSAVR-issued credit card, authorities said. Authorities also said Rand issued checks to herself from CSAVR bank accounts.
Rand faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in November.
2 indicted in theft of $20k worth of copper wire
Two men were indicted Tuesday in the theft of nearly $20,000 of copper wire from Amtrak and the National Railroad Passenger Corp.
A Prince George's County grand jury indicted George Bridgewater Jr., 50, of Capitol Heights, and Ray Harvey Walker, 50, of D.C., on four counts each.
Bridgewater could face 15 years in prison if convicted of all charges. Harvey could face up to 10 years.
