Ex-IRS specialist pleads guilty
A 62-year-old former Internal Revenue Service agent pleaded guilty to failing to file a federal income tax return. John Venuti, of Anne Arundel County, owes $789,629 for six years of unpaid taxes, authorities said. Venuti did not file taxes from 2001 to 2006. His income totaled $3.6 million during that time. Venuti worked for the IRS from 1974 to 1983. He was later a tax consultant and principal at the accounting firm KPMG.
Man convicted in road rage
slaying of ex-cop's son
A Silver Spring man was found guilty in the 1990 shooting of a retired police officer's son. It took less than two hours of deliberations for the D.C. jury to find John B. Holmes, 42, guilty in the road rage killing of Ronald Jones Jr. A witness who was with Holmes came forward recently and identified him as the killer.
Fairfax police seek jewel owners
Fairfax County police are trying to find the owners of stolen family heirlooms, including a Civil War-era wedding band. The more than 100 items have been in possession of the Fairfax County police for nearly seven years after detectives arrested nursing assistant Myrtle Martey, 47, of Arlington, on charges of grand larceny. Many victims were elderly, and may have since died. Anyone with information or who believes the property maybe theirs can call police at 703-256-8035.
Elvis statue found in cemetery
An Elvis statue stolen from a Maryland diner has been found in a nearby cemetery. A customer found the 80-pound statue Tuesday at Faith Cemetery in Overlea and returned it to the Happy Day Diner in suburban Baltimore, the Associated Press reported. The statue was reported stolen earlier this month.
