Man indicted in Christmas killing
A District man was indicted in connection with a Christmas Day slaying.
Prosecutors said Marlo Garcias, 21, fatally shot Miguel Romero and wounded two others during a Christmas celebration at a rooming house on the 5400 block of 14th Street NW.
Garcias and Romero got into an argument over the type of music being played. Garcias is also accused of groping Romero's girlfriend.
Corrections officer sentenced to prison
Former D.C. corrections officer Quincy Hayes was sentenced to a year in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for smuggling contraband.
Hayes, 32, of Alexandria, admitted to accepting $300 from an undercover FBI agent to smuggle in an iPod for an inmate.
Hayes must also serve two years of supervised release and perform 100 hours of community service.
MontCo police name barricaded man found dead
Montgomery County police have identified the man found dead inside a home in which he had barricaded himself earlier this month.
Police said the man was Simon Pablo Simon, 35, of the 700 block of University Boulevard in Silver Spring.
Police said Simon was throwing items from his apartment window the evening of July 16. Police tried to contact him, but he would not come to the door.
He was found dead in the residence later that night.
Man sentenced for role in Va. meth ring
A Texas man was sentenced to 29 years and two months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that authorities say imported more than 1,000 pounds of the drug into Virginia over seven years.
Sergio Mujica, 41, of Houston, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for Western Virginia.
He pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
He must also serve five years of supervised release.
