Man admits producing child porn
Ernesto Cacanindin, 46, of Fort Washington, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt to producing child pornography.

Authorities say the FBI found photographs of child pornography at Cacanindin's desk at a D.C. law firm where he used to work. Cacanindin's former colleagues found the pictures when cleaning out his desk after he was dismissed. He admitted that he performed oral sex on the victim, who was between ages 12 and 15 at the time, and took photographs of the sex acts.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 2 and faces up to 30 years in prison.

Man convicted in attack on officer
Eddie Mathis, 38, was found guilty of attempting to rob an off-duty D.C. police officer and then shooting the officer. A D.C. Superior Court jury found Mathis, of Fredericksburg, guilty of assault and weapons charges this week. Police say Mathis attacked Officer Devinci Wooden at a D.C. gas station in December 2003. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 30. Arrest made in P.G. slaying
A Bladensburg man was arrested in connection with a June homicide in Seat Pleasant. Police say Devin Burgess killed Christopher Moody, 17, while Moody was walking on the 6800 block of Jade Court at about 12:30 a.m. June 26. Moody died June 29. Police said there was a dispute between Burgess and Moody. Burgess has been charged with second-degree murder. Spider thief to serve 90 days
A Maryland man who stole a pet tarantula from a public library will serve 90 days in prison. Randy Humple, 27, was sentenced in Carroll County Circuit Court. He was also sentenced to serve four years for violating his probation in another case. Police say Humple stole the tarantula from the Westminister branch of the Carroll County Public Library on May 19.
