Man indicted in trooper slaying
A Prince George's County grand jury indicted one man in the June shooting death of an off-duty Maryland State Police trooper.
The five-count indictment charges Anthony Milton II with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and three weapons offenses related to the June 11 shooting of Trooper Wesley Brown.
Authorities say Milton, 28, and Cyril Williams, 28, waited in ambush for Brown, 24, to leave an Applebee's restaurant, then shot him.
Williams has been charged but not indicted.
Standoff reaches 24 hours
A gunman remained holed up at a Manassas motel late Thursday, keeping authorities at bay for more than 24 hours.
Police said John Carlson fired shots at police around 5 p.m. Wednesday after police responded to a disturbance at the Home Style Inn at 9913 Cockrell Road. Police evacuated the hotel and fired tear gas, but Carlson, 50, remained inside. Carlson has an outstanding arrest warrant from Chesapeake, where he has been convicted as a habitual DUI offender.
Carlson remained barricaded late Thursday.
