TEXARKANA, Texas (AP) — A former credit union worker in Northeast Texas has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for loan fraud.

A federal judge in Texarkana on Monday sentenced 48-year-old Mellissa Kay Morris of Winnsboro. Morris in April pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. She faced up to 30 years in prison.

Morris formerly was assistant manager of Pioneer Credit Co. in Mount Pleasant.

Authorities say Morris used the personal data of customers to create unauthorized loan applications in their names.

Prosecutors say Morris approved the loans and the credit union issued checks. Morris then forged the signatures of customers in order to cash the checks and she kept the money.

Morris, who was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison, must also repay more than $108,000.
