A Virginia teenager who had been detained in Kuwait for nearly a month because he was apparently on the government no-fly list has returned to the United States, the Associated Press reports.
The AP reported that 19-year-old Gulet Mohamed of Alexandria landed at Washington Dulles International Airport early Friday and reunited with his family.
Mohamed claims he was tortured and interrogated in Kuwait at the behest of U.S. authorities. His lawyers with the Council on American-Islamic Relations filed a lawsuit in federal court this week over the detention and Mohamed's apparant placement on the no-fly list.
Government lawyers said at a Thursday court hearing that Mohamed was scheduled to return to the United States. He had tried to fly back Sunday, but was not allowed to board a plane in Kuwait.
