Police have released a rendering of the man suspected of assaulting a church pastor and burglarizing a Montgomery County church three times.

The most recent incident happened Sunday at about 6:30 p.m., when a pastor at New Creation Baptist Church, located at 11005 Dayton St. in Silver Spring, found someone hiding in a basement closet. The man, who was holding a metal object, punched the pastor before fleeing from the church, Montgomery County police said.

Earlier Sunday, another congregation at the church discovered that someone broke into the building and took a water jug containing 30,000 pennies from youth fundraising efforts from a pastor’s office. Someone also took another 10,000 pennies from a computer room.

The first burglary happened sometime between Nov. 28 and Dec. 2, when officials discovered that someone broke into the church and took a safe that held documents and cash.

Police have not yet definitively linked the three incidents, but suspect that the same person might be responsible. The composite sketch released Thursday is based on descriptions from the pastor who was assaulted.
