A suspect in a fatal shooting in Wheaton has turned himself in, Montgomery County police said.

Police said Corey D. Yates, 21, of the 3200 block of 10th Place SE in Washington, has been charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 21 shooting death of 19-year-old Doodley Derose.

Yates turned himself in at about 1 a.m. Tuesday to the Montgomery County Detention Center, police said. He is being held without bond.

Derose died at a local hospital after he was shot on the 1600 block of Hutchinson Lane.

Police are still looking for another suspect in the case. That suspect is described as a black man who is 20 to 22 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall. He has a thin build and possibly a star tattoo on his face near his eye. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 240-773-5070.
