Montgomery County officials say 911 calls from Verizon cell phones could not get through to police for a short period during Wednesday night's storm.
The county learned of the disruption around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday when the call center was told by call centers in Prince George's County and D.C. that there were problems with Verizon wireless service. Montgomery County Police said in a statement that they immediately contacted Verizon and the problem was fixed within 15 minutes.
"Police are currently investigating and coordinating with Verizon to determine why the disruption occurred, why the call center was not notified, and how best to ensure that those circumstances do not occur again," the statement said.
