BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Silver Airways will end its flights between Billings and Helena on Sept. 1.

The Florida-based airline had already canceled its morning Helena-to-Billings flight on Aug. 1. On Tuesday, the Billings Gazette reported (http://bit.ly/NbBcjl ) that Silver also will stop its afternoon service between the two cities.

Helena Regional Airport manager Ron Mercer says the flights didn't have enough passengers. Last month, the route's flights were 27 percent full and they needed to be at 50 percent for the company to break even.

Mercer says the Helena airport offered to make up Silver's revenue losses for a short period to give passenger numbers a chance to grow, but the offer was not accepted.

Silver has served the route since May 1. There is no other direct flight between Helena and Billings.
