In response to the assassination attempt on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, two lawmakers have said publicly that they plan to be packing. Reps. Heath Shuler, D-N.C. and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told Politico that they will carry their guns in their home districts, but not while in D.C. Shuler is also urging staffers to get their own conceal and carry permits, according to Politico. Both Members of Congress have permits to carry concealed weapons.
