Bulova, chairwoman of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors, sent a letter to Virginia State Sen. Richard Saslaw decrying the state's "systemic failure" to adequately fund local roadway maintenance programs. Bulova said in the letter the maintenance of local streets, medians and pedestrian walkways was "no longer being completed at a safe, effective, or adequate level." Bulova said the Board's letter was not a criticism, but rather a "call to action" for the state's department of transportation to address the lack of local roadway maintenance funding.
