Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will file a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday, and formally make his announcement in Waukesha, Wisc., on July 13, a Walker aide confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

Walker's campaign launch has been expected for quite some time. He has previously stated his intention to make a decision after the state's budget is finalized, and the legislature reached a deal on a new state budget yesterday, as the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

The budget excluded a controversial financing plan for a new stadium for the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team. Walker drew criticism from conservatives who disagreed with the governor's "Cheaper to keep them" approach.
