In the wake of allegations that Mel Gibson abused ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, he has one unlikely ally by his side: ex-wife Robyn.
Robyn declared in a sworn affidavit that the “Braveheart” star never abused her or their seven children during their 28-year marriage — and that turned out to be pivotal in a court ruling allowing him to maintain visitation rights with Lucia, his and Oksana’s daughter.
“Mel didn’t ask Robyn for the affidavit, where she says that he never engaged in any physical abuse towards her,” a source told People magazine. “Robyn just felt that enough is enough and stepped in to show that she still values her marriage to Mel and that she is sick of the media portraying Mel as a heartless and abusive monster.
“Robyn feels that Mel was and is an amazing dad. And she is still very protective of him.”
In fact, rumor has it that Mel and Robyn may even be packing up to move to Australia, where he grew up. According to the country’s Daily Telegraph, the actor has sold his New York spread — for $17 million less than the asking price — and put his Malibu property on the market.
“Oksana’s allegations have united Mel and Robyn, and the move is her idea,” a source told the newspaper.
However, Mel’s rep said reports of a move Down Under are “not true.”
Roller-coaster romance
Soon-to-be-married Katy Perry and Russell Brand are a very lovey-dovey couple, but there may be trouble in paradise.
A pal of the pop star — uncannily echoing her “Hot and Cold” lyrics — told the New York Daily News that “they fight and make up constantly.”
“It’s a cycle,” the friend said.
Russell’s past as a notorious womanizer, along with his recovering-addict status, have evidently put a strain on the relationship. As long ago as last fall, friends of the “California Gurlz” singer had a hunch they would “not work out,” when they clashed at a friend of Katy’s wedding reception.
“[Russell] got angry with Katy because he thought she had drank too much,” the source said. “[Katy] ended up staying with a friend who has a place in NYC,” while the “Get Him to the Greek” star “went back to the couple’s hotel room alone.”
Plus, “there have always been fights about other women, despite Russell talking about how much he loves Katy all the time,” the source said.
To wit: They kept their distance at this year’s VMAs, where he presented and she performed, because “Katy suspected [Russell] of cheating, and it wasn’t the first time.”
However, by the time they hit the after party, they had — you guessed it — kissed and made up.
Life imitates art?
Pressing on
Spencer Pratt said his impending divorce from Heidi Montag isn’t just a publicity stunt. In fact, he chose publicity over the marriage.
“We love each other, but I’m a fame whore and I’ll never grow out of it,” “The Hills” villain told People magazine. “[Heidi] knows that and doesn’t want that.
“I want every kind of press. She believes in bad press.” (This is news to us, but OK.)
“She thought I’d burn out of this, but no. I’m still the same Spencer who went on ‘The Hills’ to be famous,” he said.
Well, at least he’s refreshingly honest about being superficial and fake — or something.
