Robert de Niro has played some crazy characters himself, so he may have some insight into calling Donald Trump "totally nuts."
The actor and producer made the comments about the Republican nominee while speaking Saturday to reporters and film professionals at the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I don't know, it's crazy that people like Donald Trump ... he shouldn't even be where he is, so God help us," de Niro said. "What he's been saying is really totally crazy, ridiculous ... he is totally nuts."
According to Reuters, the audience strongly applauded de Niro's comments about Trump.
"But I think now they are really starting to push back, the media ... finally, they are starting to say: Come on Donald, this is ridiculous, this is nuts, this is insane," the 73-year-old actor added. Trump has blamed the U.S. press for misinterpreting his controversial comments.
De Niro opened the film festival on Friday. On Saturday, he presented a digital version of Martin Scorsese's film "Taxi Driver," in which he starred, to mark its 40th anniversary.
