ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Roanoke Valley animal shelter has a new leader as internal and police investigations continue.
Media outlets say the Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection's board named Katherine Elliott as interim director this week.
Elliott replaces William Watson Jr., who resigned as head of the shelter and the Roanoke Valley SPCA at the end of July. The shelter is operated by a subsidiary of the SPCA.
The investigations follow complaints of neglect and financial improprieties.
Elliott is a former senior vice president of Friendship Retirement Community. She has served on the board of the Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation.
