With the recent developments surrounding the shooting at the Family Research Council headquarters in Washington D.C., the media has made it clear that civility only applies to individuals with a conservative ideology. Tony Perkins, President of the FRC, has been vocal in his opposition to the one-sided mentality that runs rampant on a systematic level throughout the media.

Frustrated over many media outlets ignoring the story altogether, Perkins said “I think the reason is, it doesn’t fit the storyline. You know, it’s supposed to be conservatives who are angry, who are filled with hate. And that’s not the case.”

He finds that the media’s reasoning for blatantly ignoring such stories lies in the fact that it goes against their preferred narrative of conservative hate.

Recent events have proven that the media elite, at places like NBC, CBS, and ABC, have a deep-rooted disregard for covering stories dealing with violence on the Left, because they know that once they highlight these stories, the policies that they openly advocate for are indirectly tied to violence on the Left.  Brian Ross’s premature judgment regarding the shooting in Aurora, Colorado last month is only one scenario where major news media refuse to cover stories objectively, and his comments show that they are more than willing to try to paint conservatives in a negative light with no factual basis to back up their claims.

After the Occupy Wall Street movement kicked into full gear late last year, the President and those in his Administration refused to denounce the radical tendencies behind those calling for open revolution and even went so far as to say, “We are on their side.”  With drug use, vandalism, sex crimes and various other forms of violence running rampant throughout the “movement,” the Left in America found no problem in brushing it aside- but if Sarah Palin has a picture of a target on a web page, she’s somehow responsible for violent uprisings across America.

This story has played out over the past few years, particularly after the attempted assassination of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona in January of 2011.  President Obama immediately called for a new debate in Washington, one based on civility and understanding of people with differing political ideologies.

Despite this plea, the president’s own Press Secretary, Jay Carney, sidestepped questions over the FRC shooting, refusing to call it a hate crime.  It’s this kind of pandering to the base and unconcealed hypocrisy that makes liberal cries for a less hostile political climate laughable and politically irrelevant.

Do not expect less hostility, a more polite dialogue, and a political climate based on decency when only one side is willing to sit down at the table. The Left merely pays lip service to improving the political culture that they hypocritically denounce.  For the Left, it’s a “do as I say, not as I do” mentality that only adds further flame to the fire in Washington.
