During The View's discussion of Gary Johnson, co-host Raven Symone praised his honesty for using marijuana. "Listen, he's telling the truth," she said. "I am a fan of Gary Johnson. I think that he is awesome in his stances. He's pro-gay marriage, he's pro-choice, less military intervention for other countries, and he admits that he smokes marijuana. He admits it. And he said that he's stopped smoking it now that he's running and he will not smoke while president but he's being real."

"So here's the deal," she continued. "I would rather someone tell the truth about it. Just tell the truth. One it needs to change, and it will change eventually, there's something else coming out."

The panel discussed Johnson's likelihood of making it to the debate stage, but Symone advocated for Johnson even if he were to not make the debate stage. "His name is still on the ballot. If he doesn't get a chance to speak, there is a website that you can go to to learn his policies and support him. Just because the news doesn't, doesn't mean that you don't have to."

Later in the discussion, Symone also praised Johnson for his endorsement of Black Lives Matter and his seeing the issue as a need to "wake up" to discrimination.

Co-host Joy Behar seemed unimpressed with Johnson, particularly since "he could be a spoiler. At this point nobody's checking for Gary Johnson," though Symone jumped in to say she was. She also advocated for Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein to appear on the show.

Johnson needs to poll 15 percent to make it to the national debate stage. The first debate takes place September 26 at Hofstra University.
