Rick Santorum blasted the Republican leadership in Congress Monday for failing to take action on Planned Parenthood after the controversial video of one of the group's doctors discussing the sale of fetal body parts was released.

The Daily Caller reported that Santorum went after House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He said they should have immediately pushed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.

“This is why I sort of scratch my head at our leadership,” Santorum said to several reporters. "Because they are so afraid of this issue."

“I would have had a vote on the floor of the Senate, if I was the Senate leader, to defund Planned Parenthood and have a debate on it,” he continued. “As well as had hearings to see if there’s any criminal activity or criminal investigation that should pursued."

To Boehner's credit, he did call for congressional hearings about the video.

Santorum hinted that the it was almost a conspiracy against the pro-life movement by big money donors.

“You have a group of members and a group of donors who will climb down your throat if they do. They just want to avoid these issues at all cost,” the former senator said. “I don’t understand it. I don’t understand why we can’t point out the dehumanization that’s going on in this country. Because that’s what it is. It’s dehumanization.”

The presidential candidate said it was a big missed opportunity to defund the abortion group.

“For me, it’s an opportunity to expose the cruelty of abortion, as well as the hypocrisy of the people who are denying the reality of what occurs during abortion,” Santorum said.
