In a jaw-dropping move that illustrates the utter lack of self-awareness the Obama administration possess, Joe Biden has emailed campaign supporters warning of “nasty, deceptive” TV ads being pushed by their Republican opponents. The “pot-calling-the-kettle-black” hypocrisy must be lost on our clueless Vice president as just this past week, his side was accused of promoting the mother of all nasty, deceptive attack ads against GOP candidate Mitt Romney.
“Starting now, we can expect even more wealthy, right-wing ideologues lining up to support the Romney-Ryan ticket,” Biden’s email begins. “The people on the other side who are trying to buy this election are putting nasty, deceptive TV ads on the air right this very minute. They're not going away. They're getting worse.”
But the Obama campaign is all too familiar with “nasty” and “deceptive,” as Obama’s Super PAC Priorities USA, headed up by former 2008 Obama campaign staffer Bill Burton, released the epitome of attack ads last week, in which Mitt Romney is implicated in a woman’s death.
The Romney attack ad contains the sad story of Joe Soptic recalling for viewers the events leading to his wife’s cancerous death. So how is this Romney’s fault? Here is the Super PACs twisted logic: Romney ran Bain Capital, which owned GST Steel, where Joe Soptic was employed. Bain closed GST Steel, therefore causing the Soptic family to lose health insurance, leading to his wife’s death. (Nevermind that Joe admits that his wife became sick AFTER the plant closed. By that logic, anyone who is ever fired from a job should blame their previous employer for any ailments they incur while not insured.)
With the GOP solidly out-fundraising the Obama reelection campaign and the announcement of Paul Ryan as Romney’s running mate scaring liberals, the Obama campaign is shaking in their boots. Joe Biden employed the tried and true scare tactics of the ‘boogeyman opponent,’ warning supporters that the Romney-Ryan ticket would be putting out misleading TV advertisements. The email concluded with a plea for a $5 donation in order to close the spending gap “because we're up against the kind of outside spending never seen before in modern politics.”
The irony of accusing their opponent of “murder” and then warning that their opponents are running “nasty, deceptive” TV ads goes to show how out-of-touch and hypocritical the Obama administration truly is.
