Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz contradicted her statement from Fox News Sunday that she did not know the political affiliation of the people behind the Priorities USA Super PAC during an appearance on CNN Monday morning.
The Super PAC, run by former Obama aides, produced the recent notorious ad falsely accusing Mitt Romney of being responsible for the death of a steelworker’s wife.
The ad has been thoroughly debunked because it has since come out that she had health insurance through her job, and Romney was not involved in the decision making at Bain Capital when the GST Steel plant closed, among other things.
It has also come out that Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter participated in a teleconference about the ad.
Wasserman Schultz faced a snarky response from CNN’s Soledad O’Brien regarding her Fox News Sunday denial.
“Really!?” O’Brien told Wasserman Schultz.
The DNC chairwoman responded by changing her stance about the group.
“Of course I know that the Priorities USA is a Democratic-affiliated Super PAC,” Wasserman Schultz said, doing a 180-shift from her earlier remarks. “The point I was trying to make was that that ad was produced by a separate organization, an organization that we don’t coordinate with and we have nothing to do with.”
Wasserman Schultz’s earlier denial prompted GOP operatives including former George W. Bush Press Secretary Ari Fleischer to mock her using a #DebbieDoesntKnow Hashtag, according to Twitchy.
Fleischer got the "ball rolling” with comments like: “DWS doesn’t know who bombed Pearl Harbor” and “DWS doesn’t know JFK was assassinated.”
