Chris Christie slammed Rand Paul on both Fox News Sunday and Morning Joe, accusing Paul of making America “weaker” and declaring that, should there be another terror attack, Paul should be dragged before Congress to take responsibility.
“People are really worried about ISIS, they’re worried about the threat of terrorism, and that’s why what Rand Paul has done to make this country weaker and more vulnerable is a terrible thing. And for him to raise money off of it? It’s disgraceful,” Christie told Morning Joe on Monday.
“He should be in hearings in front of Congress if there’s another attack, not the director of the FBI or the director of the CIA.”
This echoed comments he made on Fox News Sunday, after he was asked to respond to Paul’s Fourth Amendment concerns regarding NSA spying.
“He’s wrong and what he’s done has made America weaker and more vulnerable,” Christie replied. He accused Paul of "politicizing America’s national security" in order to “cut his speeches and put them on the internet to raise money off of them.”
“As we face a heightened warning on this Fourth of July weekend, what the American people need to know is that Sen. Paul’s conduct has made them weaker and more vulnerable to attack,” he continued.
Christie proceeded to predict that, were there an attack on the United States, ”Sen. Paul would be the first one dragging the CIA director and the FBI director up on Capitol Hill, put them under oath, and criticize them for not connecting the dots, and not mention for a moment his hypocrisy for taking away some of the tools they need for connecting those dots.”
In an interview last week, Christie mustered up kind things to say about every Republican rival except Paul, whom he called "dangerous."
