President Obama has been promising he’ll close Guantanamo Bay since 2008. Unsurprisingly, nobody is buying it any more.
According to a new Huffpost/YouGov poll, a paltry 14 percent of Americans think the prison will be shuttered by the end of Obama’s term. 43 percent believe it will remain open.
Political ideology didn’t make much of a difference in predictions—of those who want the prison to remain open, 14 percent think it will close, while of those who want it to close, only 18 percent have faith that will actually come to pass.
50 percent of Americans want the prison to stay open, while 27 percent want it shut down, and 23 percent aren’t sure.
The July poll surveyed 1000 adults, with a margin of error of 3.9 percent.
