A 19-year-old waiter in Illinois was stunned after receiving a $1,000 tip from a man he served, and says he is planning to put the money towards his college education.
Brendan Motill was having a slow night at his new job at Smokey Barque BBQ in Frankfurt, Ill., and chatting with a customer. After the man left, Motill realized he had left a $1,000 tip on a $20.31 bill.
"My jaw dropped. I couldn't do anything. I was in shock," Motill told ABC 7.
Along with his tip, the customer left Brendan a note thanking him for his service.
“I’m not sure what your hopes and dreams are in this life, but I hope this tip helps,” the note read.
The customer said he commits “random acts of kindness,” to help promote peace between others and signed the receipt with, "Tips for Jesus."
Motill didn't get a chance to thank the man for his extremely generous tip.
"I tried to go back out there instantly and he was gone," Motill said.
Motill told ABC 7 he will use the money for college and plans to pursue a career in accounting.
