LAS VEGAS (AP) — Hundreds of protesters greeted Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan outside Las Vegas' Venetian hotel as the Wisconsin congressman prepared for a private meeting with Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson.

Labor unions organized the protest Tuesday night. Workers chanted "Ryan, go home" and waved signs warning that the Republican presidential ticket is the "road to ruin."

Ryan was inside the hotel for what the Mitt Romney campaign described as a "finance meeting." The campaign barred reporters from attending the event.

Democrats are attacking Ryan's proposals to reshape Medicare and cut trillions from federal programs.

The Republican congressman spoke at a Las Vegas rally earlier in the day, criticizing President Barack Obama's leadership. He didn't mention his plans to overhaul Medicare.
