The Silver Spring man dubbed the "preppy burglar" because he was accused of breaking into homes wearing dress shirts and ties has pleaded guilty.

Court records show 30-year-old Jeremy M. Hall pleaded guilty to theft and burglary charges earlier this month. He admitted to breaking into homes last fall in Montgomery and Howard counties. The thefts gained attention after police distributed a video showing him burglarizing a home in a collared dress shirt and other professional attire.

He was apprehended through a citizen's tip.

In a letter to the court, posted online by the Baltimore Sun, Hall says he retrieved items that he stole and returned them to the victims. Hall also says he apologized in person to one of the victims.

Hall had been accused of taking electronics, guitars, jewelry and other items from the homes.

A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge sentenced him to 18 months in jail, records show.
