New polling shows Hillary Clinton ahead of Donald Trump in Michigan and Pennsylvania and tied with the GOP nominee in Ohio.

Three new surveys from Emerson College indicate the presidential race is competitive in Big 10 country. Clinton leads Trump by 5 percentage points in Michigan, 45-40, and she has a 3-point advantage in Pennsylvania, 46-43. Clinton and Trump are tied in Ohio at 43 percentage points.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson polled at 10 percent in Ohio and 7 percent in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Green Party nominee Jill Stein notched 2 percent in Ohio and Pennsylvania and 3 percent in Michigan.

The Emerson College polls surveyed 800 likely voters in each of the three states by landline telephones — not cellphones —and have a 3.4 percentage point margin of error. The Ohio poll was conducted from August 25-27, while the Michigan and Pennsylvania surveys took place from August 25-28.
