Things are not looking good for U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Va., if results from a new poll are any indication.
The freshman Democrat trails his opponent, Robert Hurt, 58 percent to 35 percent, in a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WDBJ News7 in Roanoke, Va.
Among the telephone survey of 591 likely voters, 4 percent said they would support independent Jeffrey Clark if the election were held today, and 3 percent were undecided. The margin of error was +/- 4.1 percent.
Perriello does hold a significant financial advantage over Hurt, reporting $1.7 million cash on hand as of June 30 compared with Hurt’s $216,000.
WDBJ’s story also notes that Perriello was behind by more than 30 points in a SurveyUSA poll in August 2008 before going on to defeat Virgil Goode by 727 votes.
